Today the Guardian ran this piece on the pairing of the Duke of Cambridge, an Islington-based gastro-pub and the local Thornhill primary school. While few out there are convinced of the nutrition and general quality of school dinners, it's hard to imagine this is what Jamie Oliver had in mind with his TV campaign to promote healthier meals for the young.

With new menu-fixtures such as butternut squash and pea risotto, salmon and pollock pie and ice cream with apricot compote, it's possible the next will be a generation of seasoned chefs and jaded eaters. Or else we're getting entirely ahead of ourselves. The article points out that students may not be ready for such a dramatic change of diet, which seems ill-catered to the tastes of children.

It's also difficult to see such initiatives taking root in some of the city's less... bourgeois neighbourhoods to the east and south. Do such programs have beneficial potential or are we merely creating more expressions of economic inequality? And are we ultimately serving the young or is the city exploring new means of marketing its progressiveness? You decide, I'm hungry.
